The Little Imperfections

My mom emailed this to me and it stood out too good to not post.
It's so true. Overall, it IS the Little Things that matter.

Mrs. Lee (played by playwright, director and actress Jo Kukathas) speaks at the funeral of her husband. Snoring and gas become the talking points for living with one another's imperfections.
She explains that it is the little imperfections that actually make us all such beautiful individuals.

The commercial provides support for family bonding, thanks to the craft of Malaysian film director,  Yasim Ahmed: "Little Imperfections".

It is a good video, look it up.

Thankful Thursday: A Kind Word

Yes, so simple a kind word is... and I am thankful for when I get one. There are a couple of folks out there in bloggy-land that I've never met, but they always seem to have a kind word. You know, it's the little things. RR & NN, I'm talking to YOU. Thank you for your kind words that you so often leave.

So simple a kind word is. I like to think that I'm fairly cognizant of the strokes I give... alas, I am not always. For folks I've not met, or 'strangers' at the store, or my toddler daughter, or our animals... words come easier.

But, for the adults in my life... I need to be more cognizant. For I am not vulnerable if I do give strokes... do I think that I won't be stroked back?? And so what if I give strokes and they do not come back like I envision? Am I worse for the wear?... for the stroke that I dolled? No. And I know this.

Don't get me wrong, I do give strokes, that is, say a kind word, give a compliment to those adults in my life... it's just that... I don't know, maybe I assume many times that they know how I feel... and a stranger, or folks I've not met, our daughter or our animals don't know how I feel, so I tell them. Well, that leaves me still assuming regarding the adults in my life. We all know what the proverbial "they" say about assuming.

I just know that I need to be more cognizant of giving a kind word since I know how thankful I am when I get one.

Conventional Commodity: Rubber Boots

Con-ven-tion-al: adjective, (kuhn-ven-shuh-nl): ordinary rather than different or original.
Com-mod-i-ty: noun, (kuh-mod-i-tee): something of use, advantage, or value.

But they're fancy rubber boots!
I've had a solid black pair of rubber boots since I was in high school (for feeding the horses when it rains) ...let's just say they are a quarter of a century old. Yeah, rubber last a l-o-n-g time, but they were getting dry-rotted so badly that they had splits in the rubber... not so water proof anymore. So, momma got herself a new pair of boots!

Hey, it's the Little Things.

Thankful Thursday: Dry Bath Mats

Bath mats are great. There for you when you get out of the shower or bath. So nice to step onto instead of a cold floor. But, you know, I really took note of our bath mat the other evening. I stepped out on it after my shower ...and it was DRY. So nice, a dry bath mat.

You see, 99.3% of the time, I get to step out onto a wet bath mat. It can't be helped. Our routine is such that my husband takes a shower before me. So, I get a wet bath mat. Oh well, I'm not complaining... it's just that I noticed that dry bath mat last week and it was nice.

You know, I always say... it's the Little Things in Life.

So Call Me a "Comfy Dork"

Here I am sporting the latest jammie's fashion... well at least in this house... well, at least in this house, by me. The pants are tucked in the socks so there's no bare spot on my leg while I sleep. Yeah, yeah... call me goofy, weird... or a dork. But, I'm a comfy dork.

January Sunset

So, the days are getting longer and I'm loving that. Spring is my favorite time of year and with the sun staying out even a tad longer, it's great. Here's our back yard, which I love. It's the juncture for so many daily happenings around our place. We left room in case we ever decide to... "bite the bullet"? ...more like "bite a cannon ball" and put a pool in or ?? who knows what... I like just have it open for playing.

I didn't have a tripod, so focus is not the best. But I saw the sky behind our windmill and had to click the camera.

We had some sand/dirt brought in to fill in some some ruts left by a big tree spade truck (we bit the bullet and had some bigger trees brought in and put around our house). Anyway, the dirt... it's like sliced bread for a 2 1/2 year old. Only thing is, our Little Someone cannot play in the dirt before her nap, but after nap she can. Otherwise, I'd be changing and laundering double what I already do -no thank you. There's plenty of other outdoor things to do that don't involve heavy orange stains on cloths.
The other evening was SO nice, we even played in the dirt just a little past dinner time (which, right now, is at dusk). Daddy and dogs love the dirt too! This pic was taken when Daddy was making a track like the one that the "Polar Express (movie) Train" has on the mountain (swirls around and down/up). Click on pic and you can make it out better.

Whoo-hoo! Music!

Well, got the music widget going where one can choose their song. Hey, remember, it's the Little Things!
There is all sorts of songs listed... well, most sorts. For, there is no cRAP listed... but, hey, that's not 'music' anyway. Hmmm... wonder how many I offended there!
Oh well... happy listening.

Hooome, Home on the Range... Er, uh.. Address Lables

So, I mailed out the annual Christmas letter... actually, this year it was a New Year letter and it went out late. Better late than never, right? Anyway, I used up all my address labels, so I had to peruse the Internet for more. A company called Colorful Images is where I always get my address labels. They have tons. Anyway, despite 'tons', I couldn't find any I liked... that is, until I found that they did photo address labels. Cool! That personal touch!

So, I ordered some labels that have the below pic on it. I cropped it into a rectangular panoramic dimension using their online label-maker ~ very neat. Am excited to get them~ hey remember, it the 'Little Things' in Life!

I liked the sky in this pic, as the clouds were a nice mix of colors. Plus, the angle of the sun really seemed to set off the house.

Can't wait until spring for a pic from this angle. We bit the bullet and had some big trees brought in and moved around on our property using a big tree spade truck. So, the same pic should show quite different this spring.

It's the Little Things in Life

For some time now, I have realized that it is the Little Things in Life that make it what it is. I, absolutely, maintain that assertion. And here is a prime example...

We lived in our house for almost seven years before the below 'Little Thing' made it's way into making my/our lives better. Though our home was custom designed & built, there are a few things -had we known- we would have done differently. I'm sure that is the case with most people that have had a home built. Hindsight is always 20/20.

Anyhow, our 'toilet room' is a room unto itself, as our bathroom is a larger open room with the bath, shower, & his/her sinks. Our toilet ...room... closet... it's like little closet, it has a shelf for books & bathroom whatnot, it has room for a little trash-can and a basket of toilet paper. We put a specialty picked timer for the vent fan- so we can turn it on and leave, allowing us to think of the next occupant, yet we don't have to remember to come back and turn it off... okay, that's a 'little thing' too.

Anyway, we thought that we had thought of everything with this little toilet room. Alas, we had not! For it was dark upon entering at night. A nightlight you say! ...no can do, there was no outlet. We have a mild nightlight in the larger bathroom area, but did not have one in this little offshoot of a room.

Sooo, I bought a clock with a 'luminescent' dial ...haa! That was a joke (and let me tell you, I searched the Internet over). Okay, so after sending this clock back, my handy other half says, "I can wire a different cover-plate with a plug". You can WHAT?!? ...well, why didn't you say so!?!

So, this is a "Little Thing" that has made all the middle-of-the-night trips to that little room so worthwhile. See the itty-bitty nightlight under the switch and next to the timer dial...
(sorry for the blurry resolution, wanted to show light while illuminating, thus couldn't use flash)
And let me tell you... this soft little green glow lights up the joint! We leave the bathroom door cracked and, in the middle of the night, one can be drawn like a moth ...without being blinded.

It's a great Little Thing.
